What are the key rules of HIPAA?

HIPAA comprises the Privacy Rule, which safeguards individually identifiable health information; the Security Rule, which establishes security standards for electronic PHI; and the Breach Notification Rule, mandating that covered entities and business associates inform individuals, HHS, and sometimes the media about breaches of unsecured PHI.
